Pigs in the Parlor A Practical Guide to Deliverance Frank Hammond Ida Mae Hammond 8601409658230 Books Reviews

  • This may sound crazy, and I was a skeptic before I experienced it, but our family has been plagued by demons for the past two years. Emotional problems, an unnatural number of physical ailments and accidents, an incomprehensible number of ER visits, and depression, anger, and despair were just the most obvious manifestations. We sought advice on the internet, and from our local Pentecostal church. I learned that I can at times discern spirits, a gift that I have no logical explanation for. We could cast the demons out, but they kept coming back, stronger than ever. Recently, we met some deliverance ministers who use Hammond's methods. We've been delivered from the demons, and using this book have been able to keep them out and continue to search for more subtle ones that remain.

The book gives a scriptural basis that, in my opinion, is heavily prooftexted. I am not comfortable with the underlying theology. But the practical steps and experience Hammond shares are invaluable. The writing style is accessible to the average reader, and the key points are repeated for those of us who tend to miss them. I admit that I'm still skeptical of Hammond's description of Satan's army, but that doesn't really matter. The steps in his book work. And if you've been plagued as we have, that's an immeasurable blessing.

I will agree that having local expertise, in the form of experienced deliverance ministers, helps a lot. But I believe that we would have been better equipped and prepared for our battle months ago, before it got so bad, if we'd had this book then. (But skip the workbook, it's more theological than practical.) As for the theological issues, I now have the luxury of wrestling with those in peace. As a wise man once said, pull the arrow out and heal the wound. THEN you can worry about who shot you and why.
  • It started off really good and I felt I was learning something, I even went through the list and did self deliverance just in case I had something. I was troubled about why they felt they had to name the demons when Jesus nor his disciples named them. I have read several books and this is the only one that had to have specific rules for deliverance.
Near the end a child got re-delivered and he said it was because of her stuffed animals based on Deuteronomy 1417-19, He even referred to them as "evil creatures". The chapter in Deuteronomy was talking about which animals were clean or unclean that the children of Israel could EAT under Jewish Law. Even so Jesus stated all are sanctified and good for food under the New Covenant so why not cut one out of fabric and stuff it? Cursed objects come from, and are used during worship in the Occult, some jewelery is even possessed, once you learn the symbols for devil worship you will make sure there is nothing in your house but to be picking on stuffed animals is a bit overboard for me.
Then he said that unbelievers should not be delivered because more demons might go into them. Again Jesus and the disciples cast out hundreds of demons, 'from unbelievers'. It is possible that when he delivers some one he delivers them body, soul and spirit? He is basing this on Luke 1124-26, What Jesus did not say spoke volumes to me and he was not worried about it. Smith Wigglesworth only said, "Come out you evil spirit, or come out you devil, in the name of Jesus."
Now that this knowledge is available I like to learn what I can, but I also like it to make sense. God Bless.
  • As I read this book God put the puzzle together. The pieces of knowledge, experience, encounters of my past like a masterpiece puzzle. So much revelation and deliverance for myself.....I am a transformed believer!
  • Great book! Every christian should read. Even if the you are not interested in going into the deliverance ministry. It is part of the gospel. You can pray, give and go to church for years and still be defeated by satan and his demons if you do not know how to fight back. This is a must read for pastors too.
  • I liked this book because it was truly inspired by the Holy Spirit. It was clear, concise and not "spooky". I would recommend this book to all pastors and those involved in intercessory prayer. It helped me to understand and secure deliverance in the areas where I was bound and I have been walking with Christ for 40 years!
  • The best book I've read on deliverance so far, mainly because of the extensive practical advice given.

Highly recommended for people who have some experience already and want to grow in this type of ministry.
  • An education in spiritual warfare and deliverance ministry. Comfortable writing style and humbly presented in such a manner as to instill confidence in the reader. It becomes immediately obvious that the authors have an amazing anointing and depth of experience in the subject. Also recommend Derek Prince's book 'They Shall Expel Demons'.
  • Excellent reference book. Beware though, only Pray where and for what God tells you to. Do not step out where you are not to be.
