"But instead I got this wonderful hardback, 1945 Heritage Club edition with absolutely stunning illustrations. I'll still have to get the Dover Thrift edition for class unfortunately but I'll probably end up keeping this one anyway."

Salomé Salome original french text French Edition Oscar Wilde 9781974576432 Books Reviews

  • Short play showing Wilde's and Richard Strauss'admiration for this story of the Bible.

Salome, beautiful, young, willful beauty who knows how to use her strengths to get what she wants, especially from those who desire her intensely.

Although once satisfied her desire, in this case the kiss to the beheaded John the Baptist, does not get all the satisfaction she would have expected.

Masterpiece that in a few pages describes with great skill, beautiful language and thoughts the human weaknesses."

    --------

  • Do not buy the version of this book sold through and published by Branden Books. It is an ebook printout with blank pages and a pixellated cover. $10 is a rip-off for the quality of book that you get in this case.
  • There are many sections of English text that does not have the corresponding German translation-just a blank space. Also, there were some slightly annoying mistranslations such as first officer being translated as second officer. Another reviewer mentioned that it looks like an ebook print out-I agree.
  • As noted in the headline, this is a highly readable version of this classic work of drama, a groundbreaking one in dealing with sexual desire, religious belief, and power.
  • If you like "The King in Yellow" and you want to read the original forbidden play, then this is as close as you'll ever come! Blasphemous, scandalous and banned in its own time, Salome is just as shocking today as it was in the late 19th century. Read it for yourself to see why.
  • nasty sexual overtones throughout the play--Salome was one kinky girl. Wilde gets the oppressive atmosphere exactly right.
  • But instead I got this wonderful hardback, 1945 Heritage Club edition with absolutely stunning illustrations. I'll still have to get the Dover Thrift edition for class unfortunately but I'll probably end up keeping this one anyway.
